About the conference:
Similar to proteins, information in RNA lies beyond its linear sequence.  RNA can fold into complex secondary and tertiary shapes that are important for its function.  While these structural information was traditionally difficult to obtain, recent advancements in high throughput sequencing technologies have now made it possible to determine RNA secondary structures and long-range interactions. In this talk, I will describe our efforts to develop new methods to determine RNA secondary structures in vivo using second and third generation sequencing technologies and describe how their applications to biologically important systems including neuronal differentiations and SARS-CoV-2 enable us to gain a deeper understanding of RNA function and cellular biology.

About Yue Wan:
Dr. Yue Wan received her B.Sc in Cell Biology and Biochemistry from the University of California, San Diego. She obtained her Ph.D in Cancer Biology from Stanford University, USA, under the mentorship of Howard Y. Chang.  During her PhD, she developed the first high-throughput method for probing RNA structures genome-wide.  Yue is a recipient of the NSS-PhD scholarship from Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) in Singapore, and is currently an Associate director in the domain Epigenetics and Epitranscriptomics Regulation in the Genome Institute of Singapore. Dr. Wan was nominated as CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholar (2018) and EMBO Young Investigator (2017) and received prestigious awards such as the L’Oreal-UNESCO for Women in Science, Singapore National Fellowship (2016), the Young Scientist Award from the Singapore National Academy of Science (2015) and the Branco Weiss – Society in Science Fellowship (2014). She is interested in studying functional RNA structures and understanding their roles in regulating cellular biology.
