In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the IRCM established the post-COVID-19 Research Clinic in February 2021 to better understand the long-term effects of the coronavirus in patients who received a positive diagnosis.
Participants in this study undergo a series of tests to investigate the side effects of the virus and detect subsequent abnormalities. The results will address fundamental issues related to the current pandemic and ensure a faster response in the future.
« There are still so many things that we don’t know about COVID-19, such as its long-term effects, which can have serious repercussions, months after the diagnosis. Our study aims to better understand the disease in order to help patients cope with persistent symptoms. » Emilia Liana Falcone Director of the post-COVID-19 Research Clinic |
We still cannot explain why certain symptoms persist in some patients. Common symptoms include intense fatigue, body pain, shortness of breath, headaches, and difficulty sleeping and concentrating.
In addition to studying the effects on patients, the post-COVID-19 Research Clinic seeks to establish a bank of biological samples from survivors to foster collaborations and speed up responses to the many questions surrounding the virus.
