The IRCM Foundation is pleased to announce a major $750,000 fund to support cutting-edge research at the Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM).
Offered by The Molson Foundation, this generous donation will propel highly promising research projects developed as part of the IRCM's new Sidney-Altman RNA Therapeutic Hub.
At the IRCM, we firmly believe that RNA research is one of the paths to future effective solutions to major health issues that have challenged modern medicine to this day, said Dr. Jean-François Côté, President and Scientific Director of the IRCM. This donation from The Molson Foundation is yet another example of the trust major donors and the Quebec business community place in the IRCM’s ability to carry this highly significant and ambitious project.
Announced in December 2023, the Sidney-Altman RNA Therapeutics hub aims to develop innovative RNA-based therapies, in order to facilitate their transition from the laboratory to the patient. This cutting-edge research hub will synergistically bring together IRCM’s multidisciplinary research teams the IRCM with its partners, to conceptualize high-performance RNA sequences using artificial intelligence, identify new therapeutic targets, develop therapeutic molecules and carry out preclinical studies.
The advent of RNA-based therapies is raising new hopes for personalized medicine, due to their high potential for generating effective solutions to a variety of serious diseases such as certain cancers, as well as rare and degenerative diseases.
