Research Assistant in Dr. May Faraj Research Unit

Dr. Faraj Research Unit specializes in clinical and basic research into new mechanisms that can lead to the development of cardiometabolic diseases in humans, such as type 2 diabetes. More specifically, her research unit investigates the role of atherogenic lipoproteins, immune system and adipose tissue in the pathology of type 2 diabetes and the effect of nutritional interventions as therapeutic tools to reverse early cardiometabolic abnormalities. Ultimately, her research will aid in the prevention of type 2 diabetes in humans, particularly among subjects with obesity.

The Nutrition, Lipoproteins and Cardiometabolic Diseases Research Unit is currently looking for a candidate to fill the position of research assistant.

Job summary 
Selected candidate will manage a lab working in clinical and basic research on type 2 diabetes. In specific, they will be responsible for the following major tasks :

• Setting up and maintaining standard operating procedures, mostly in fundamental research, that evolve with the research project ;

• Ordering of lab material and maintaining material as well as human sample inventory ;

• Sharing the responsibility of subject recruitment and testing as well as conducting clinical and basic techniques on collected human samples alongside the research team ;

• Training and supervising undergraduate and graduate students on lab techniques together with Dr. Faraj.

Qualifications and skills required
• MSc in biomedical sciences (ex: biochemistry, immunology, molecular biology) with at least 2 years of experience as a research assistant OR a BSc in medical sciences with more than 4 years of experience as a research assistant
• Basic research expertise: cell and tissue culture, biochemistry, molecular biology (ex: PCR, western blots, transfection, ELISA, microscopy, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry…) • Expertise in immunology and/or lipidology research is an advantage +++
• Computer skills: Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint, Prism Graphpad, or other specialized software for data and samples analysis (i.e. SPSS, FlowJo) is a ++
• Bilingual (English and French)
• Having organization and training skill
• Capable of analyzing and solving problems
• Demonstrate autonomy, initiation and rigour
• Quick learner
• Team player

• Full-time position (35 hours/week) with an initial contract of one (1) year renewable
