Nurse practitioner specialized in adult care or primary care

Founded in 1967, the Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM) is a non-profit organization that conducts basic and clinical biomedical research while training the next generation of scientists in an innovative environment. With approximately 425 employees and trainees, the Institute includes more than 35 laboratories conducting high-impact research in the fields of infectious diseases, immunology, cancer, neuroscience, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, systems biology, and medicinal chemistry. The IRCM also operates specialized research clinics in long COVID, immunology, hypertension, nutrition, and diabetes.

The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr. Emilia Liana Falcone. Dr. Falcone is a physician and scientist specializing in infectious diseases. Among other things, she directs the IRCM's post-COVID-19 Research Clinic. 

The IRCM's post-COVID-19 Research Clinic (IPCO) was the first long COVID research clinic established in Montreal and represents a truly unique infrastructure where all patients are both clinically evaluated and enrolled in a research protocol aimed at understanding the long-term effects of SARS-CoV2 infection. More specifically, the objectives of the IPCO research clinic are: 1) to understand and better manage the clinical manifestations of long-onset COVID, 2) to understand the causes of long-onset COVID, 3) to identify diagnostic biomarkers and new treatments for long-onset COVID.

The Falcone laboratory is a dynamic team that combines clinical care with research. The chosen candidate will work in an energetic, solution-oriented environment that values equity, diversity, and collaboration.

Specific duties and responsibilities
Under the supervision of Dr. Falcone, the nurse practitioner will use clinical judgment and skills to perform clinical assessments and medical follow-ups.

  • Carry out an advanced assessment of the person's state of health and formulate hypotheses that may lead to a clinical impression.
  • Prescribe diagnostic tests.
  • Intervene to promote health and prevent illness and injury (acquisition of self-care) for the person and those close to him/her.
  • Refer to existing resources in the community and collaborate with them in setting up services to meet needs.
  • Ensure continuity of services in collaboration with care partners, and support transition between services.
  • Request consultations with other professionals or medical specialists.
  • Ensure that file notes and reports are written according to current standards and required deadlines.
  • Act as a role model and change agent while contributing to the development and promotion of advanced nursing practice.
  • Support the clinical practice of nurses and other caregivers and professionals according to objectives and procedures agreed upon with immediate supervisor.
  • Participate in the identification, development, and evaluation of clinical tools (collective prescription, standard of practice, etc.) for his/her clientele, in collaboration with members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Collaborate with the attending physician to establish care and treatment priorities.

Education and work experience

  • Be a member in good standing of the OIIQ;
  • Hold a postgraduate diploma giving access to the specialist certificate of adult care nurse practitioner (IPSSA) or primary care nurse practitioner (IPSPL) according to university requirements recognized in Quebec;
  • 2 years' experience as an IPSSA/IPSPL in a clinic;
  • Bilingual;
  • Knowledge of standard softwares and of the electronic medical record system;
  • Be familiar with the professional, ethical, and legal standards that apply to the practice of the IPS profession and respect them in his/her practice (Essential).

Working conditions

  • 1 year contract part-time (16-24 hours per week); possibility of workinf full time
  • Contribution to the Government and Public Employees Retirement Plan (RREGOP);
  • 13 paid public holidays;
