Decades of Collaborative Patient Care Are Rewarded

The Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM) is proud to announce that Dr. Rémi Rabasa-Lhoret is the recipient of the prestigious Prix d'excellence en soins 2024 from the Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec (FMSQ).
A dedicated and passionate endocrinologist, a researcher and a clinician, Dr. Rabasa-Lhoret, who is the Director of the IRCM's Metabolic Diseases Research Unit and the IRCM Diabetes Clinic, plays an important role as a leader and a mentor in diabetes research and care, particularly in type 1 diabetes. The Chairman of the Professional Council of Diabetes Québec, a Full Professor in the Department of Nutrition, Faculty of Medicine of the Université de Montréal, and the holder of three research chairs, his expertise is recognized worldwide. He authors over 400 scientific publications.
The Prix d'excellence en soins honours outstanding medical specialists or innovative projects that have contributed to improving the access, the efficiency, the quality or the safety of healthcare offered in Quebec, by fostering interdisciplinarity.
In accepting the award, Dr. Rabasa-Lhoret thanked the FMSQ and its collaborators, underlining how both research and practice have evolved, thanks in particular to the contribution of patient-partners, who shed an entirely new light on care, research and teaching.
“Dr. Rabasa-Lhoret has been passionate about science and care for decades, and this outstanding award is a fitting tribute to his hard work,” commented Dr. Jean-François Côté, President and Scientific Director of the IRCM, adding: “We must also salute the excellence of his teams at the IRCM Clinic, which is affiliated with the Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM), who provide state-of-the-art follow-up care to so many patients living with diabetes.”

Dr. Rabasa-Lhoret is often called upon to speak out publicly on diabetes-related issues, and surpasses himself to focus on his patients, research and defending the rights of people living with diabetes. At the heart of his work is the synergy between research and clinical care, an essential condition for the advancement of knowledge and care.
