Science POP 2024

Science POP 2024

The 2nd edition is on!

In the wake of the resounding success of its first edition, the Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM) and its partner, the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS), are pleased to announce the second edition of the provincial popularization and science communication contest, Science POP.

Registration is open for one month, starting January 22, 2024. As only 15 institutions will be able to take part in the competition, those interested are invited to register without delay.

Science POP aims to promote dialogue between science and society. Its primary objective is to stimulate scientific curiosity within the Quebec society, as well as knowledge transfer and popularization skills among the up-and-coming student community.

By including local competitions at various institutions, Science POP 2023 enabled over 200 participants to showcase their talents. The first edition provincial finale, which was held in May 2023, brought together finalists from 15 Quebec research institutions, before a large and enthusiastic audience. At the end of the high-level contest, nine winners of three separate challenges were selected.

Science POP 2024 aims to reach out to the university community across Quebec. See sciencepop.ca for details. For any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us at sciencepop@ircm.qc.ca.

Quotes:
"The FRQS’s financial commitment, dedicated to the promotion and understanding of science, is commensurate with the quality of this event, which enables scientists-in-training to measure themselves against others, in a friendly and caring setting."
Dr. Jean-François Côté, President and Scientific Director of the IRCM

"I was delighted by the quality of the students' presentations last year, and by their motivation to communicate science. It was only natural that the FRQS should be associated with this second edition of the Science POP competition, which is sure to be a great success."
Carole Jabet - Scientific Director, Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé
