About Pierre Lavigne
Dr. Pierre Lavigne is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Functional Genomics, within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the Université de Sherbrooke. He is also a member of the Institut de pharmacologie de Sherbrooke (IPS), the Institut de recherche sur le cancer de l'Université de Sherbrooke (IRCUS) and PROTÉO. A biochemist-biophysicist and structural biologist, he is interested in the Myc/Max/Mad/Miz-1 transcription factor network and its role in cancer biology. He is also involved in translating his basic research findings into treatment avenues, one of which is currently undergoing clinical trial. These avenues aim to inhibit the Myc oncoprotein, which is deregulated in the majority of cancers. This work is funded by the CIHR. He is also pursuing a research program on the structural biology of proteins with multiple Zinc finger domains and their implications in the regulation of transcription and DNA topology. This program is funded by NSERC. He is actively involved in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels in Biochemistry and Pharmacology, and has authored and co-authored over 100 scientific publications.
