Canada Research Chairs
The Canada Research Chairs program stands at the centre of a national strategy to make Canada one of the world's top countries in research and development. The program was created in 2,000 by the Government of Canada to establish 2,000 research professorships – Canada Research Chairs – in degree-granting institutions across the country. It invests $300 million per year to attract and retain some of the world’s most accomplished and promising minds.
Chairholders improve our depth of knowledge and quality of life, and strengthen Canada’s international competitiveness. They also help train the next generation of highly skilled people though student supervision, teaching, and the coordination of other researchers’ work.
The program therefore helps the Institut de recherches cliniques de Montréal achieve research excellence, and become a world-leading research centre.
IRCM Research Chairs
Donors to the IRCM Foundation, whether they're individuals, organizations or companies, contribute significantly each year to the Institute's biomedical research and to its scientific excellence.
It is thanks to these generous contributions collected by the IRCM Foundation that the Institute has the opportunity to create several personalized funds and research chairs of excellence held by research unit directors.
A very big thank you to all the donors for the creation of the IRCM research chairs!
