Exploring new avenues to develop tomorrow’s medical knowledge through an approach that integrates basic and clinical research
Our research units are led by principal investigators who collaborate in a spirit of collegiality and with the vision of bridging the gap between research and patients. They train the next generation of scientists and are independent and creative minds who work tirelessly to improve health.
Current research
Primary Immunodeficiency
The Primary Immunodeficiency Clinic is housed at the Research Centre on Rare and Genetic Diseases in Adults at the Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM). The clinic assesses and treats patients with compromised immune systems, resulting in frequent long-term severe infections severe or atypical infections as well as autoimmune manifestations.
The symptoms can develop at any age. In Canada, it is estimated that 13,000 people suffer from this kind of disease. The clinic staff also collaborates with researchers of the IRCM’s Immunity and Viral Infections Research Division to better understand the evolution of primary immunodeficiency, to identify treatments and to identify appropriate treatments.

Physician and researcher, Dr. Hugo Chapdelaine is a specialist in clinical immunology and allergies. He is Director of the Primary Immunodeficiency Clinic of the Research Centre on Rare and Genetic Diseases in Adults at the Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM) as well as research fellow at the Institute. Dr. Chapdelaine also performs as a physician at the Clinical Immunology and Allergy Services at the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) and as Associate Clinician at the Immunology, Rheumatology and Allergy Services at the Centre hospitalier universitaire Sainte-Justine (Montreal) and at the Internal Medicine Services at the Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur de Montréal. In addition, he is Assistant Clinical Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Université de Montréal. He is the author of several scientific publications. |

| Dr. Chapdelaine completed his medical studies at the Université de Montréal, where he obtained a specialization in Clinical Immunology and Allergy. He also completed additional training in internal medicine and immunology at the Hôpital Necker (Paris). |
