A Prestigious Prix Hippocrate for the É-LABO project

The Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM) is proud and delighted to announce that Dr. Eric Racine, Bénédicte D'Anjou and several members of the IRCM Clinic were awarded a prestigious Hippocrate Prize.

The team, led by Dr. Racine and Bénédicte D'Anjou, received this distinction for their Living Ethics Laboratory (É-LABO) project. The innovative project stood out in the “Improving the user experience” category. The project developed an open, inclusive and constructive reflection on the psychological distress experienced by people with complex or rare chronic illnesses. The project designed innovative interventions to alleviate this distress, including a medical appointment preparation form for more holistic care, and a resource guide for the clinic’s staff. All these developments took place thanks to the involvement of the clinic’s staff and patients in a co-creative process.

Eric Racine is also Professor-Researcher at the Université de Montréal, in the Department of Medicine and the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine/Bioethics.

“We are very proud to see that the work of our Research Unit in Pragmatic Health Ethics, which tirelessly seeks to understand and improve the experience of patients within the healthcare system, has met with such well-deserved success,” enthused Dr. Jean-François Côté, President and Scientific Director of the IRCM, adding: “This research, applied in real-life contexts, actively contributes to the well-being of patients and the healthcare professionals who support them.”

In what was an edition particularly rich in talents, the 14th edition of the Hippocrates Prize rewarded 18 outstanding projects promoting integrated multidisciplinary and multi-sectoral approaches across the entire healthcare trajectory. Aiming to promote the best care and services approaches to Quebecers, the awards ceremony took place under the honorary chairmanship of the Quebec Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, and the Minister Delegate for Health and Minister Responsible for Seniors, Sonia Bélanger

This year, a record number of entries underwent evaluation, with 128 projects submitted (50 more than in 2023), testifying to the vitality of the healthcare sector and its willingness to innovate.
