The Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM) welcomes the participation of its expert Dr. Éric Cohen in the work of the committee reviewing the federal approach to scientific advice and research coordination in the event of a pandemic. Dr. Cohen heads the Human Retrovirology Research Unit at the IRCM and is known as one of the leading researchers in the field of HIV. His work is advancing knowledge of a virus for which, it should be remembered, no therapy to date has found a cure.
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Health Canada commissioned this panel of independent experts to review the federal approach to coordinating research and scientific advice. This post-mortem will undoubtedly be very useful in supporting Canada in future pandemics, as well as in any large-scale health emergency requiring coherent, structured action.
The process of drafting the group's report, expected in the spring, will be the fruit of an extensive exercise in targeted consultation.
